4yr old: "I don't want to nap today!"
Me: "You really should, just a short one, since we're staying up late tonight. You get wild when overtired."
4yr old: "No, I'll be calm, I'm not tired."
4yr old: *jumps around couch, dropkicks me in the face.*
Sigh.

Good thing it was me he dropkicked, not my wife. I'm nearly indestructible, so no damage done.

(addendum: He really, really should have napped and was in nightmare mode from 5pm onward. Oh well. He knows not napping is an option, but 90% of the time it ends poorly, so we still try to encourage it. I don't want to go back to driving him in the car to get him to sleep...)

Sounds like a handful!
And yeah, extremely relate on the "I'm not tired!" part. Getting the kid to sleep is one topic where we are extremely strict (that and nothing else, essentially).

Sleep and violence toward us/sister are our strict topics. He's not maliciously violent, but he's so physical and energetic that inevitably something happens.
