I did a lot of clearing of psychological baggage in the meantime. This probably explains why mind feels so clear of distractions.
Emotional hygiene is absolutely vital to a good meditation practice. You can't sit through everything. Certainly not as a householder.

If mind is burning up with questions of pain, loss, anxiety, you will not be able to rest fully in awareness.
Nor will you be able to deconstruct the things which meditation can deconstruct for you, like fossilized residues of mostly-released trauma.

If you can't face emotions that come up in meditation, you are not meditating wrong. You are receiving feedback about the limits of meditation.
But also, you are receiving information from the body. Answers to the question "where does it hurt?" Diagnosis.
