Huge problem: most of the people you see complaining about the (local) 10% playing watchdog for the 1%, are in the global 10% playing watchdog for the global 1%. This carries down to the level of explicit violence, war and subjugation abroad.

I realized today in a new way that most of the shrieking in civilization is done to prevent people following thoughts to their conclusion. i.e. left or right, rich or poor, your lifestyle still depends on the exploitation of Chinese factory workers. We are all complicit in this.

If you want to live in a world that doesn't have rich bastards steal everything, you also have to live in a world where you are not that person to somebody further down the chain.

It's all well and good to see Corbyn, Sanders or any center-left politician in Scandinavia talking about social safety nets etc. But the material wealth *that* is built on is stacked on bones & blood sacrifice all the way down. And mostly not your bones or your blood sacrifice.

Bottom line: you want to live in a world where rich people don't live to 400 by consuming the bone marrow of your ritually abused kids? This means giving up more than you gain, in purely materialistic terms. Unless you're reading this from a Gujarati slum or something.

The sheer overconsumption of stuff does not mean we have to live in abject poverty to correct it. This is simply wrong. It does mean a lot of the easy (and inefficiently produced & distributed) comforts you use to soothe your bleached spirit will have to go.

We overproduce pointless, materially costly things. We move them around in ways that pollute massively. We need less stuff, first of all. More energy spent on covering basic needs for everyone. More spent on local production (cut pollution). More efficient transportation.

All of this stuff is fairly basic thinking. There are people who have spent decades of their lives on these problems. But you don't want candidates to tell you you can't own five cars. You want them to tell you it's unfair that Bob Billionaire owns a personal transport fleet.

Until a cultural willingness to actually sacrifice anything at all is enshrined, we will always be headed for the abyss. The question is mainly in how fast.
