This really isn't quite true, as someone who lived in 1995 and was an adult. People who came to the coffee shop together tended to talk to each other much more, now they tend to use their phones or laptop and talk much less.

I remember on breaks when working restaurants, factory floor, etc, workers would chat, relax. Now it's mostly staring into phones, though I'm an outside observer these days and don't work those jobs anymore, so I could be wrong.
