I long ago stopped crediting most people with many more critical faculties than the average chimp.

People may be clever for some values of 'clever', but our thinking abilities are, for the most part, spectacularly overhyped.
But yeah, I hope I'm never in the position of needing help from others who would have to do some amount of critical thinking in order to provide it...
