Don't back down to any open carry asshole, get close, with a knife. Give him no distance. Knives win against guns most often in those situations. If he starts to draw, take him out.

Knives also have the advantage of not being super obvious like holsters. Disadvantage is you can hurt yourself, and need to know how to use it. It's also psychologically more challenging than pulling a trigger, or so I recall? Haven't really shanked or shot anyone, so...

they aren't that hard to use if you're close and he's going for his gun. Knives go in and out as fast as sewing machine needles. Of course, there's some danger, but the odds are actually on your side if you're close. Especially against some douche with a long arm.

Oh yeah, I was mostly talking about how for most of us - aside from gun nuts! - violence as a response is overinhibited. That leads to frequent hesitation and death.
