Me, year ago: "Metta seems kinda like a silly practice to me. What are these guys on about?" Universe, the entire time since: "How about another lesson in the pain of separation, of judgement, of fear, of the absence of love? Are you not entertained?"

I find it to be a tenderizing, humanizing practice that's not about trying to force myself to feel warm and glowy towards everyone all the time. It's about observing the full spectrum of emotional reactions I run into when considering the wellbeing of myself and others. Right?

Yes, for some values of "humanizing" (I notice we are often very poor at this). I certainly feel more free and expressive than ever. If anything, it has made me gentler and kinder in the vast majority of situations, but with anger or fear given their due expression when needed.
