I mean, this world does suck for a lot of people. It's folly not to admit that.
It's also folly to use that as an excuse to aimlessly perpetuate the petty bullshit that keeps it that way.

Women almost universally age better than men, in this sense, even as they tend to encounter more unsolicited bullshit from others than guys.
And that's a huge part of the Grumpy Old Douche complex: soliciting bullshit at the expense of joy and companionship.

Because I have been informed that this take is ageist, I feel compelled to say I am not old and have spent a lot of time repressing anger into resentment.
Yeah. It sucks and it's just as dumb.
Big part of being a better person is living with all your feelings fully integrated.

But it is especially sad with old people (men overrepresented) running on accumulated decades of this stuff.
How do you even begin to untangle that? How much have they suffered, often pointlessly?

That is just the tip of the iceberg.
Lots of these men have had really bad traumas. The problem is, many male coping mechanisms tend towards the "actively worsening" side of the spectrum.
Women also get fucked up and maladaptive coping strategies, of course, but overall fewer.
