Did you perchance do a bunch of meditation or something?

Curious. I was asking because one common effect of doing a lot of certain types of meditation is that the story engine in your mind just breaks.
Kind of speaking from personal experience, here.

Heh. I am fairly strongly opposed to the method of practice Sam Harris is enmeshed in, actually. Relates to the previous point.
It seems nice until you realize that some of the things you're breaking can't always be repaired, and mindfulness itself is not sufficient to move on.

Clearly. Sounds like that's a part you're already engaging with without much interference!

Most traditions that aren't westernised pseudo-Buddhism have other modalities of practice for answering this question:
"I have no stable frame of identification, now what?"
A lot of practitioners over here get stuck there, though.
And that's on the healthier side!

Of course it's comical!
The whole point is to move away from "I am a person X and my story is Y and that is the fullest extension of my being."
You can move away disintegratively or reintegratively, but the whole point is liberation from fixed frame-ness.

Which, coincidentally, is also liberation from things like obsessive-compulsive suffering, and a whole bunch of other ills.

For most people, it really isn't a choice (that they are aware they are making)!
