Curious. I was asking because one common effect of doing a lot of certain types of meditation is that the story engine in your mind just breaks. Kind of speaking from personal experience, here.

Heh. I am fairly strongly opposed to the method of practice Sam Harris is enmeshed in, actually. Relates to the previous point. It seems nice until you realize that some of the things you're breaking can't always be repaired, and mindfulness itself is not sufficient to move on.

Most traditions that aren't westernised pseudo-Buddhism have other modalities of practice for answering this question: "I have no stable frame of identification, now what?" A lot of practitioners over here get stuck there, though. And that's on the healthier side!
