Yeah:( I'm wondering though if there are effective responses to this sort of thing...because these sort of selfish attention grabs are very cornering moves. There are downsides to creating outrage, but even more downsides to just being silent

I think it's been taken to the extreme here, to be honest. Going on about yourself and your achievements can be alright depending on who you're with and the context. Everyone has the understanding that 'you do what you have to to get ahead'

The problem is mostly in the more fuzzy, social areas of life- like an amplified social bystander effect- no one wants to stand out and be the first to help, because it might be 'embarrassing'. So someone may need help/backup but the surrounding people might not dare to
