Yes, but I don't think that's broad enough! Take energy efficiency - pure profit, very short return on investment, no ideology required. "You want inefficient or efficient industrial processes?" People just won't spend. And I'm not taking fancy cradle to cradle stuff here.

Also, look at the social display values of wasting money that is used by the 0.001% of the really rich. For them, more expensive is has more social value. "Look at how much money i have to spend."

0.001%?!? I've personally witnessed deadbeat law students ask bartenders to pour champagne they down the sink. They had rich parents, surely, but not that rich.
