my mind is circling around a subset of 'theory of internet socializing in the context of fb groups / subreddits" and i'm coming to realize that most people are not worth your time – and/but that's probably something each person will have to independently discover for themselves

my ex-boss gently tried to explain this to me for years but i adamantly refused to believe him. i was always convinced that there have to be people outside of my echo chambers and bubbles who must be of immense value. that's actually a non-sequitur. both statements are correct

Yeah. Political, aesthetic etc. filters are really not the same as asshole filters.
Funny given context, but especially on Reddit and Facebook, I find non-sequiturs to be fairly common asshole signalling.

often people are plain clueless; ie they want to talk but they don't dare be the first to speak so they use the replies to someone else as a soapbox – but yeah here there be assholes, too

My asshole filter is probably a bit overactive, but I tend to group clueless time-wasters as a relatively benign form of asshole.
I am categorically incapable of efficient low-effort posting, so I'd rather have some false positives than waste too much time.
