Locally, yes. This is more or less the premise of the Scandinavian countries (well, Denmark less so, lately). Still filthy rich and taking an outsize share of global resources - not to mention Norway is a petrostate, and Sweden a major coal supplier - so that problem remains.

But looking at the US and UK, it seems pretty clear you need some sense of decency as a baseline. Or you'll just have 50+% of your population resisting the loss of even the teensiest advantage held at the expense of others and/or global ecosystems.
