A 5-point difference does not mean the same at every point in the distribution, unless you're seriously suggesting that a move from 50th to 62nd percentile, and 99.99th to 99.997th, are at all similar.

If you're at such low IQ levels that it starts to interfere with basic skills, sure, 5 points of IQ in either direction can certainly make a difference.
For ordinary people, it really is only significant to Mensa members thinking that their jump from 1/20 to 1/50 matters. Dumb.
