So Jordan Peterson said a tremendous amount of stupid things during his brief celebrity, but I respect his saying group violence is *normal*, bog-standard, neurotypical stuff carried out by ordinary people.
Because despicable as those atrocities can get, it still is all of that.

Talking to people, you quickly get the idea that it's very unfashionable to call it what it is.
Rather, they really want murder and war to be seen as some sort of strange, unusual dysfunction - and not, say, a very boring, usual one, that most of them are very much capable of.

Surprisingly (well, if you don't meditate much), thinking about it honestly is actually grounds for some optimism.
It's something of an achievement that we aren't all perpetually caught up in acts of pointless violence. Because, as a species, we very much could be.
