Yes. Mother-in-law's boyfriend is an obvious ENTP (far as MBTI gets you, anyway). And, uh, I can't think of anything nice to say about his intellectual abilities, whatsoever.

While I'd normally agree, I don't see what is inherently less trustworthy about self-reported MBTI results when the test itself isn't actually reliable. :P

The system has serious problems, such as never actually having been demonstrated to be a valid psychometric test, but it's got strengths, too. It's close enough to the big five that you'd expect at least some elements to be valid. And Jung was probably on to something, too.

The part that is mainly fishy is the really detailed and comprehensive descriptions of types and all their discrete personality traits. Far as I know, there's no psychometric test in existence that is *that* good at granular analysis, so it'd be a bit crazy for the MBTI to be.

Me too. Though a lot of what he did is so far ahead of any instrument we have that it's probably more fair to consider him a mystic than a scientist, at times.
