I once had someone throw a very genuine fit over pineapple on the their pizza. Don't think it was for show.
Also, a lot of this culture war stuff turns out just as insincere IME.
Making a scene for (presumed) social credit isn't something people grow out of as much as internalize to the point of total unconsciousness.
