anything you either try to push away or pull closer/cling to will tend to be very hard to either get rid of or change. Attempts to get rid of bad stuff are interpreted by the mind as "this is still important, better keep bringing it up." (The Mind is kind of an asshole.)

I've been stuck on highly realized concentration practice. Not *as* realized as you're describing, but the problems were identical.

Sounds like you did what I did: delved too deep without shoring up other, necessary skills.
I think some traditions do the same, but they tend to come plastered with DANGER: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
