cessation is often a blanking out. I think you pushed very hard on concentration accomplishments and didn't get permanent state changes. Also, often it takes more than one awakening + work to pound in a conditioning. Took me 3 years to get anger to mostly non-binding.

sounds like you are part way in the process and not stuck in a good place. It's generally acknowledged that some parts of the process are shit and that you can get stuck there for long periods.

there are different insights, obtained thru different means. Getting stuck, however, seems common in meditative processes.

however, awakening is largely a matter of "letting go". When I let go of thinking of my personality as me, for example (a genuine awakening) it opened up the possibility for a lot of personality change, made me tons happier, etc...

anything you either try to push away or pull closer/cling to will tend to be very hard to either get rid of or change. Attempts to get rid of bad stuff are interpreted by the mind as "this is still important, better keep bringing it up." (The Mind is kind of an asshole.)
