Weird habit change I hadn't picked up on: I am far more inclined to sniff objects to examine them than I used to be a year or so ago.

It's one of those bizarre "civilized" ideas in many cultures, that it's somehow inappropriate to use your nose for much of anything except food.

I do this constantly, plus people barely even smell their food.
I was at a restaurant and sniffed my wine glass before they poured any wine, the waiter freaked - immediately apologised and changed all the glasses because he assumed you’d only sniff it if it was bad 😅

Makes perfect sense to sniff your food. You can't always see spoilt food. But people would rather find out after they take a bite...

But smell also carries the strongest emotional memory.
Things I've long-since forgotten in *declarative* memory just pop up with smells. The smell of people you used to know better, for instance, is... interesting.
