Viking metal has the best riffs and the worst lyrics in all of metal.
It's a more extreme form of thrash, which makes all kinds of sense now that I think about it.

As a writer, if I were to write lyrics for music, thrash and Viking would be two of my favourite things to write for, I think for that very reason

It's especially egregious with viking metal. Thrash, at least, is an original offering, and comes from subcultures not exactly known for verbal sophistication.
Viking poems aren't as florid as English, but they were to such poetry what laconic sayings were to Greek rhetoric.
