(By "everything", I should probably just say "thoughts")

My understanding is still pretty naive.
I've known how to turn off thoughts like so for a couple years. The other stuff I know little about.

That makes sense. So if I can cut off thinking no problem, I should look at raising energy...

Don’t go mad raising your energy, like a chandali junky. I would bet and have some war stories about that! Good to have close guidance for energetic stuff imo.
Is the zen energetic stuff maintained through oral instruction, ?

True enough - and I admire many people who would probably be seen as mad by most.
I was referring to cases where people prone to psychosis can do serious damage to themselves with energetic methods. An order of madness not likely conducive to ‘great bliss’.

Sure, just like with psychedelics. I survived unsupervised Thelemic practice (and psychedelics), though. I'm not worried.

If you should run into problems, just remember that it's all part of the normal range of experiences, and there are people who can help you. Even with Kundalini and other energy work, problems are rare but fixable.

Paraphrasing an old teacher: "Sometimes the most useful lesson is 'yeah, that happens!'"
Also pairs well with:
"It really hurts when I do that."
"Well, stop doing that, then."
