(By "everything", I should probably just say "thoughts")

My understanding is still pretty naive.
I've known how to turn off thoughts like so for a couple years. The other stuff I know little about.

That makes sense. So if I can cut off thinking no problem, I should look at raising energy...

Don’t go mad raising your energy, like a chandali junky. I would bet and have some war stories about that! Good to have close guidance for energetic stuff imo.
Is the zen energetic stuff maintained through oral instruction, ?

Your next step, if you can do "Brain on Zen" while on the cushion & everything is peaceful is to do "Brain on Zen" while doing things: cooking, riding public transportation, dealing with family drama.

Just go through your day, periodically asking yourself whether you're doing "Brain on Zen" or busy brain. If you notice your brain is busy, go, "OK, many thoughts," and just kind of wave and laugh. Here they come, there they go. Then, relax into "Brain on Zen."

See how far up the scale of activity you can take that. A lot of other meditative techniques are optimal for people who don't work best while quiet. The high end include things like wrathful tantra, ecstatic dance, and battle.

Funny. I've done wrathful practice before, but never knew it was an established technique. Sort of stumbled into it via a different practice.

This all seems like good advice for different modalities of practice.
