It's far easier than you might think to maintain awareness of all your conscious content.
Why? Because the majority of what you call "consciousness" is an illusion, is not really there.
It's filler.

Once you see the filler content of consciousness, see what a brittle illusion it is, there really isn't much else going on in here.
Just a few tidbits of information at any given time. There's much else you're somewhat aware of, on some level. But consciously? No.
