Btw, I see a lot of arguing that this has something to do with "Western", "individualistic" culture. I think that's BS. If anything, it's a post-agricultural issue.

Most trauma isn't beyond healing, I don't think. But, and especially with really early childhood trauma, an entire personality structure can be built around the pain. Once these become inextricable, every step towards healing can cause an identity crisis. Very challenging.

Cultures with weaker family ties often leave you alienated and alone to deal with trauma. Bad. Cultures with strong families, however, often rub your nose in your abusers and demand you respect them. Better?
