Remembering a Buddhist critique of certain (typically tantric) practices. "you may be stuck in bliss for a 1,000 lifetimes, making no progress." Mentioned it to my teacher. He laughed, "and being stuck in bliss for a 1,000 lifetimes is a problem why?"

My impression is that any lasting bliss implies a massive decrease in embodied conditioning. You simply can't sustain that level of sheer happiness without letting go of a lot of striving. It will all collapse into shit if it isn't grounded in a profound lack of care.
IOW, a 1000 year bliss state isn't just a pipedream for being a 1000 years long - you'd need to be completely, thoroughly uber-enlightened. Or strapped to some bizarre machine that keeps you alive and fires your neural circuitry in a very specific way, I suppose, but yeah.

*shrug*. Seems to be at least three different ways of doing this. You can have it "on tap", that is know how to fire it up. You have it because you are so detached. You can have it (body bliss) because your energetics are so on and moving in the right ways.
