I'm sure there are conditions, cultures and circumstances where this does not apply as much, but:
In my limited experience any sort of awakening should be accompanied by subtle-to-massive release of tension somewhere in the body.

It seems to be an issue with conditioned dissociation.
If, for whatever reason, you *haven't* been conditioned to dissociate all the time, the tension isn't there to begin with.
But that's mostly a speculative point.

I think we all carry conditioned dissociation from inevitable trauma growing up. It's a defense mechanism. Part of releasing tension via awakening is intuitive recognition that the scary monster no longer exists. Bruce Tift writes well on this

Yeah, well, relatively speaking you know.
I definitely think a few culprits (public schooling, life in cities, nuclear families) account for a large percentage of the effect.
