The corrosive influence here is real, true. However, I'm mostly reminded of that one time a kid in the multiplayer for Crysis was running around with some hacks active, abusing the game and throwing random racist/sexist slurs around. Made him quit the server in 4 minutes.

So, totally fair to be scared of Nazis. Plenty of historical evidence that this is a good idea. But, just saying, the Daily Stormer is currently committed to a propaganda war against... a mid-size games developer from the UK, over female generals in a historical game.

These people are in these groups as they are losers who get validation there. But also because the fear others show them give them an inflated sense of their own importance. Cultural memories last, but the correct response to Nazis is scorn. They know who they are, deep down.
