My pet theory is, it's because of the strange ethics entailed in many of these traditions - "Enlightenment and how to live it, according to me."
If it sounds like religious chauvinism, well, it's because it is.

I don't expect this explanation to satisfy everyone, and I'm still not quite sure of it myself.
But crypto-proselytization in the guise of "experience" or "teaching" is very real. That much I feel confident saying.
