1/ why is twitter so addictive? i would love to hear theories i think for me it has to do with: 1) endless live stream: see what many ppl are doing/thinking _right now_ 2) bite-size pieces of novelty: my brain craves novelty & twitter lets me rapidly absorb many morsels of it

2/ 3) tight curation: twitter seems more optimized than fb for eating a live stream of Novelty Skittles from select interesting ppl 4) focus on ideas: more so than other popular social networks 5) UI: i find twitter's UI much more enticing than fb's, which feels kind of spammy

Basically, for all their flaws, they didn't destroy the hedonic treadmill they set up (like Facebook did). They're still making moves that could have that effect, though. We'll see.

The basic experience is something akin to gambling. Insert tweet, and some times receive positive feedback (in the technical sense of "feedback"). There is also the more intimate setting of the platform, though: I just like talking to a lot of the people I have on here.

Facebook sucks because all the networking happens off-platform, and they've designed it to trap you there - but not to give you something to *do*. There's always another tweet; there are only so many times you can like a FB post before you feel like doing something else.
