In his long career, HHDL has missed many opportunities, both for his people and for his brand of Buddhism.
Time and again, he has either not taken action (lama sex scandals), acted foolishly (the Karmapa mess), or said things that caused him to lose credibility and support.

Tbh, it sounds like your disagreements with him are not the sort of thing is commenting on.
I don't think it's fair to equate craftiness w/worthiness. We're living the ruinous consequences of crafty-but-incompetent people in power. Unimpressive? Certainly.
