So how come individualist liberalism, and hyper-individualist neoliberalism, so seemlessly collapse into fascism? Seems to me that so long as they are part of the fascist in-group (white, straight, non-left), individualists don't give much of a shit about exclusive collectivism.

Yeah, but we aren't talking about changing over the course of a long period, via other forms. We are talking about liberal and neoliberal hegemonies decaying directly into fascism, with little in the way of revolution or systemic or personnel overhaul.
