The extent to which mental stuff is physical stuff in drag keeps amazing me.
Example: when meditating, let your eyes wander, then fix them. The difference is dramatic and (for me, at least) immediate.

Huh. I glaze out my vision when i do Vipassana-style meditation. Fixed, but out of focus.
Never thought much about why I do it, but it works immediately.

Yes, strange how use of different gazes can have some really dramatic effects. eg: you can tell when vision is too fixed/tense, because you almost immediately start going into a sort of trance state. Tension around the eyes is pretty instructive IME.

Hmm. I tend to go into trances more outside, especially when looking at things not immediately in front of me.
Never occured to me that it was a function of that.
Interesting. It might be a factor, hard to say.
Visual field is fascinating; been used in many weird ways by meditators throughout history. Much like pranayama stuff, the 'energetic' component is a bit of a live wire. Some practices explicitly connect to 'inner-energetic system'.

Fixed eyes work even if eyes closed, in fact, I had my eyes closed last night. The glazed effect will only occur if your eyes are not moving.
