Pissing off my (far smarter, but a bit more gullible) followers is how I bank a lot of benefit from this site.
Once I realized people are much more likely to reply if they thing I'm being stupid, I stopped worrying about seeming stupid.

Exactly, put out a partial truth, let people respond, and then tell them they are also right and revel in a mutual love fest :)

Yes, both and. I also often put out half-baked ideas, let people tell me my blind spots. A form of external processing.

And really, it's not that strategic. I kind of just let my intuition guide me.

If you're a sociopath, I'll feel a lot safer around you if there is constant strategic thinking at work.
If you're an ordinary person, and not e.g. a trained nurse, those thoughts are rationalizations at best. At best.
