IMO, yep. Every major advance has been preceded by violent disruption, because power resists major advances almost without exception. Bhutan's pre-emptive switch from absolute monarchy to democracy is one of the exceptions that prove the rule.

Was gonna ask you about that. I figured it was referring to someone in particular. Obviously there's never one exception, when talking about all of history. I'll look him up.

Reminds me of the study that found non-violent protest was more successful.. For one, their definition of non-violent was absurd; it absolutely would be called violent. For two, non-violent change happens regularly bc small changes are more numerous, & less opposed by power.
