Ethical question arising for me: do you teach meditation to people whose politics you find deeply repugnant?

There's probably actually a technical question buried here. What emphasis will make them worse, what emphasis better? There seem to be types of insight that can, in certain circumstances, actually reduce sympathy and so on + make people fare more effective.

and, of course, some form of expanding Metta seems like a good idea in most such cases.

Funny. I've noticed advanced Buddhist meditators tend heavily towards liberal/centrist politics, whereas a lot of the other disciplines seem to trend towards extreme right/left.
Probably purely anecdotal, but weirdly common in my sample.

I would have though that as well, but many of the ones I'm thinking of are "young" (i.e. 40s).
I can think of a few counterexamples as well, but they are rare. Very rare, actually.
Still leaves about 50 other confounding variables, though, so don't worry. ;)
