If there's one thing social media really highlights, it's that virtually everyone sucks at filtering information from people they trust. It's extremely easy to contaminate someone's filters with BS. In fact, it's probably happening to everyone who isn't a hermit.

Education makes you more biased. Intelligence makes you more susceptible to some biases (less so to others), and so on and so forth. There is no obvious out, certainly nothing you can just start doing tomorrow to stop believing BS all the time.

Every smart, educated person I know has a bunch of opinions that tick one or more of those boxes. I've had other people point the same out in me. Immunity does not seem to exist. It certainly doesn't exist anywhere near people who *think* they're immune.

So unless speaking to the particular dealings of a particular person, it seems a broad marker of ignorance to talk about these things as affecting only certain groups. Affecting certain groups worse than others? Sure. But everyone is affected...

Ah, RAW. On the one hand, he's one of very few writers on this topic I respect. He didn't end up buying into his own hype. On the other hand, he wrote most of his books right before I was born, so they exist to me in this weird liminal stretch between present and past.
