I've finally realized that American left culture has basically become mental illness, or possibly some form of religious hysteria. The right was that way for years, but now the left has succumbed. I fear this may be environmental toxicity. Like Rome was done in by lead poisoning

Not convinced you can delimit the political culture. I haven't seen a sane US political position in a long time. There is always dangerous confusion.

Oh I know. I have plenty of politically engaged US friends who don't have particularly weird positions. The problem is on a different level: they don't have anything to organize behind. Every big position is co-opted, ruinous or both.

You don't like war, who do you vote for? You want working infrastructure, who do you vote for? You want functioning health care, what do you do? If your answer to any of these questions is voting for either major party, you lost. If it's not, you're going to need a lot of guns.

constantly on Twitter are absurd. Guy has his issues, but is he in the top 10 worst CEOs worldwide, or in the US? Top 100? Hell, top 1000? Probably not. So what are they doing?

But conversely, I don't buy that any of this is any more psychotic than any position on the (horrendously defined) right. This is just how things *are* in the US, politically speaking. Dragging Elon isn't less sane than e.g. supporting coal deregulation.
