This is probably the take that best explains his wild fluctuations between brilliant little insights and absolute nonsense.
He can't draw the line.

He's acquired a much harder edge over just the last few months. I cut him some slack b/c:
1) he's not well, prone to depression & some autoimmune disorders.
2) I've had a shitload of grandiose ideas myself, usually unable to articulate them well.

Meseems observations are now opinions which means endorsements because why else would one be making observations unless one were endorsing them.

I'm curious as to what you find so alarming. Certainly there are far worse voices with perhaps somewhat of a similar audience, in that sense he seems to me a moderating influence.
And some of the hit pieces have been ridiculous.

I agree with the latter 100%, but I don't agree with the former at all.
He's buddies with Ben Shapiro, Molyneux and all the other bottom feeders out there. He doesn't do what he wants leftists to do and distance himself from the loonies - he embraces them.
Moderating? Nah.

I dunno about Shapiro, his voice alone deters me wishing to hear more, but yeah Molyneux is disgusting. otoh one could plausibly justify the convo between JBP & Molyneux as attempt to moderate the latter's listeners. In any event I haven't seen any 'embrace' beyond that one convo

The thing is I also know a lot of the psychology he cites (studies being, after all, just studies), and he does it responsibly enough when talking about psychology.
Then he makes wide, unsupportable assertions about their wider ramifications. He's like that a lot: untrustworthy.
1
I wouldn't use 'untrustworthy'. He seems earnest enough. He admits to a temper, & has been prematurely combative in some recent interviews
Honestly I could make a pseudo plausible, hand-wavy case for ancient art depicting DNA. Having it dismissed as von Daniken seemed a bit much

It will be interesting to see if his former colleague's piece affects JBP's behavior going forward.

Sometimes people are redeemed by the loss of good friends, but often it just drags them deeper. We'll see.
Personally I wouldn't really have an issue with JBP if he had some humility about his views. I don't have to agree with him, but he must be able to act responsibly.
