SF granting 625 scooter medallions should make you fall on your knees in gratitude that Uber totally & completely ignored local laws

Who do you believe is primarily behind the opposition to scooters? I don’t know, I am trying to figure that out. Because scooters do take cars off the road. The sidewalk clutter _can’t_ be the primary reason, can it?

I don't hear very many people against them other than the governments themselves. Could be a case of "we have to do *something*" because you have power.

This. Have yet to see a reasonable response. What, because SF sidewalks are exemplary otherwise?

Scooters were hazardous to other sidewalk users who reasonably did not expect people to zoom by at speed. They were also being dumped all over busy pedestrian areas of San Francisco

We shouldn’t judge something by if there are _any_ issues with it. We should judge it by if there was progress made (with reasonable tradeoffs). Scooters presented no additional problems that bicycles did not already present when it came to speed. And they took cars off the road.

Scooters speeded on sidewalks. Something bicycles in general did not. Either case is dangerous to pedestrians. It is likely that the incremental number of cars taken off the road by scooters was zero.

Now if only a unapologetic Bay Area upstart would ignore all local zoning laws and start building sufficient housing

The challenge for scooters is they are so much easier for the government to impound vs anonymous Uber’s. I’m not sure how scooter companies could ignore local laws

I might be in the wrong here but I believe that's because scooters are limited to a confined area i.e. City of SF whereas, Uber was never going to be limited to one city as rides can start and end in different locations.
