    Seashells were commonly accepted legal tender in Africa until the mid-19th century. Money is what people decide it is. But. There is a commonly accepted framework for evaluating the characteristics of a money. There are reasons why gold is a better money than seashells.

    Imagine the allure as a politician of promising your constituents all the spending they want, w/o ever having to raise taxes. Spend more AND cut taxes! There's no inflation! This has been tried many times before in monetary history and there is no example where it ended well.

    Because the headline inflation number has stayed low for 10+ years, its given politicians & central bankers (which have become entirely politicized) the cover they need to run massive deficits and just print the difference. There's no one left asking "how will we pay for this?"
