Attacks on the 1619 project claims can seem a bit cruel, because, after all, don’t the project’s authors have noble goals? But not only were these claims presented as fact in the NYT, they are being taught to students, so they simply cannot be placed beyond criticism.
Conservatives, libertarians, and Republicans all have noble goals. Does that make criticism of them seem cruel? Or do you reject the nobility of their goals? I reject the nobility of 1619’s goals and see no cruelty in criticizing them.
