The world has seen absolutely no meaningful technological progress in my lifetime - all we've had are faster and smaller computers, bigger networks, slightly more efficient machines and medicines. No true breakthroughs, no world-changing discoveries.
I don’t know enough to form an opinion, but I’m skeptical. Elsewhere someone pointed out that patent concerns shifting from machines to algorithms constitutes a paradigm shift, which is a good point too. Lots of good discussion here... just not from the OP.

Good point. Increased specialization and complexity of fields make fundamental breakthroughs harder and harder for nonspecialist to see. It’s possible I am wrong about the transformative impact of modern languages but without the right background we can’t even argue about it.
