colleges are no longer necessary at this point. they are officially obsolete.

More college = more money. There are direct correlations to higher education and earning power.

Colleges claim degrees=more money, but it doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Earnings are heavily skewed toward people coming from wealth and/or getting STEM degrees. If you're from a poor family or study humanities you will probably be worse off taking on the debt for the degree.

There's no correlation between a BA and higher income for people coming from the bottom 20% of America's families. It's captured almost entirely by the wealthiest 20% of families. College keeps the rich rich, but it doesn't provide mobility for the poor.

There's the investment angle too. If you were to take the average cost of a BA from an in state, public college and put it in a mutual fund for 50 years you get a higher return on investment than the increase in pay. Out of state or private college can't even be considered.
