Calling the Land O'Lakes package "racist" is dumb despite the fact that I get why Native Americans might not like it and why it's fine to retire the image. I don't think there's anything cartoonish or exploitative in the image but it still borrows ethnic tradition to sell butter.

I think if the discourse was framed like this more often, you'd get less angry culture war battles over it. Instead of resorting to constant accusations of racism, why not just say "could you maybe not use an image deeply tied to our heritage to sell your product?"

"bUt WhAt AbOuT qUakEr OaTs?" I dunno, did you hear any quakers complain? Not sure why some of you are so adamant about dying on the hill of butter packaging that most of you probably don't even buy.

Are there legitimate efforts by Italians to do this or do they not mind? "You did this so I will too" only makes sense if you WANT to do it too, not that you'll do it simply because they did it because culture war. https://twitter.com/Sam_LaSelva/status/1251524637785276416 …

What constitutes "legitimate efforts"? Is it just a number of people or is it the nature of the complaint? If the number of people does matter, how do you count them? Whose opinion on the issue matters?
