Occasional reminder that the "socialism" versus "capitalism" debate is a fake debate about a false dichotomy. Both plans are bad on their own, bad enough where "but this one is worse" isn't even a reasonable argument. Mixed economies exist and actually work!

Anyone arguing wholly for capitalism or wholly for socialism is wrong and shouldn't be listened to. Anyone who doesn't understand the terms well enough to know why is also wrong and shouldn't be listened to.

All of my social media feeds today are going berserk around the issues of "socialism" versus "capitalism," and both sides are making really strong points with great rhetoric. This is just how you get more division. We should be discussing individual policies instead.

As an American (lol), my underlying pragmatism (not as an epistemology) says that we should always be trying to figure out what works best in each context, and generally we should reject sweeping, oversimplified programs that will apply blindly to everything.

Capitalism and socialism are not "plans." Capitalism is a system in which individuals own and manage capital. It's moral arguments are rooted in the sovereignty of the individual. It's practical arguments are the resulting prosperity that occurs only in capitalist systems.
