I'm a little surprised that art and English faculty have not been more firm in their defense of the classics that shaped and influenced great works and use of English over the centuries, regardless of skin color or genitals of the creators.
Imagine if tomorrow all of your friends and colleagues genuinely believed you were a child molester. How would that impact your professional and personal life? Defending the classics will get them labeled racist and sexist. To them, those terms are as devastating as molester.
