We all make mistakes. Defending his rights was the correct thing to do. Defending his character or his ideas? That's a different story.

The right to free speech also extend to the responsibility to give others the same right. Hate speech is not free speech. We have already established what free speech is not- falsely shouting fire in a crowded theater. Hate speech incites violence- that is the only progression.

Inciting violence is not hate speech. Research fighting words doctrine. Its the limitation of free speech. Hateful speech as long as it doesnt encourage violence is still free speech. Free speech also covers challenging those ideas through dialogue.

Then you know nothing. What else does hate speech do than spread hate? And what does hate always lead to? Violence. Don't be a fucking idiot.

Hateful speech almost never results in violence. There are far more hateful things said than violent acts conducted. If we don’t know what is being spread than we can't confront the arguments and the hate will metastasize. Free speech is the only way to defeat hate.
