Or would you say whiskys are actually much more different between one-another tastewise?
They do vary a lot. Like yes it will taste alcohol-y no matter what, so if you hate the smell of alcohol then you will hate it, but just in the scotch (scottish) single malt family, the flavours combo are already crazy. Just choose a few on this chart

like, look at those 2 bottles from the "mainly woody" category and they already are quite different. Chose a category you feel the most safe (for me are sweet/fruity categories) and start from there.pic.twitter.com/YCcVc7o3QG

hell, my Stark bottle tastes spicy warm when drinking without a piece of ice and then like drinking mint soda with ice so they already differs within a bottle depending on how you drink it
